Crucial by-election in Southwark

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 23rd Jan 2004

The party is defending a vital seat on Southwark Council on February 12th following the sad death of one of the LibDem group.

London's LibDem MEP Sarah Ludford and Prospective GLA candidate for Lambeth & Southwark, Cllr Caroline Pidgeon got down to East Walworth last weekend to help candidate Jane Salmon and other members do the Kennedy Walk!

The balance of Southwark's Council depends on the outcome of this crucial by-election, the current state being 28 Labour, 28 LibDem, 6 Tory and one vacancy.

"Southwark LibDems have achieved a great deal on the Council in the first 20 months having taken control after Labour's 40 years of inaction. Don't let Labour back in!" says agent, Gary Glover.
